Cheetahs                          Force
Saturday 2nd July 13:00 GMT

The Cheetahs will play host to Australian visitors the Force on Saturday 2nd July at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein in Round 15 of the 2016 Super Rugby season, the first weekend of the tournament following on from the international break. The 2016 season hasn't been easy for either of these two sides, with the Cheetahs having managed to record just three wins from their 12 fixtures. All three of those successes have come against sides that have struggled even more in the current campaign. Home and away victories have been enjoyed against the Sunwolves, making their Super Rugby debut, while the Kings who are playing Super Rugby for the first time since 2013 were also defeated in Bloemfontein.

The Cheetahs have played one previous fixture on home soil against Australian opposition in 2016, with the Brumbies winning by 25-18 in Round 5. On a three match tour to Australia, the Cheetahs were beaten by the Rebels, Reds and Waratahs, all by wide margins that varied from 13-22 points. The Western Force have managed just two wins themselves, both of which have come on the road. The Reds were downed in Brisbane in Round 2 by 22-6, while the Sunwolves were beaten in Tokyo in Round 11 by 40-22. They have played only once in 2016 against opponents from South Africa, when they lost at home in Perth against the Bulls by 20-42, an eight defeat in the last nine fixtures against sides from the Republic.

The rock bottom Cheetahs host the Western Force on Saturday in Free State Stadium Bloemfontein. So far this season the Cheetahs have managed just two wins from their 11 Super Rugby fixtures, along with a draw and eight losses. The Force has exceeded all expectations this season, and although they are only third in the Australian Conference, they are in fifth place on the overall table, and occupy one of the wild card play-off positions. The Western Force have managed two wins on the road this season, from the four away matches that they have played, and they will be eager to make that a third away win in order to maintain their challenge for an end of season play-off place. Sitting just three points behind the Conference leading Brumbies, who play the table topping Sharks on Saturday, the weekend could end with the Force in an unheard of Conference topping position.

The Force will hope that the presence of the former Cheetahs favorites and Bloemfontein born flyhalf Sias Ebersohn in their team will give them an advantage, as he knows the ground and conditions that will face the Australian visitors. The last three matches between the teams have all seen the Cheetahs successful, but it would be a major surprise if that run didn't come to an end this weekend.
