Saturday 5th March 15:10 GMT

The Cheetahs who finished bottom of the South Conference in 2015, have a second successive home fixture to open the 2016 Super Rugby season, when they host the Stormers, who finished at the top of the national conference, in Bloemfontein on Saturday, in the only South African derby of the weekend. Having opened up a 21 point lead in their first game against Los Jaguares, the Cheetahs looked set to claim victory, but the South American outfit overcame early ill-discipline which cost them two players to the sin bin. The Super Rugby newcomers gradually whittled away at the deficit, and eventually ran out winners by 34-33.

The Stormers opened their season with an emphatic 33-9 home win against the visiting Bulls, after a tight first period. Three second half tries seeing them claim the points. The Cheetahs only managed one win in Bloem last season against South African opposition, a 25-17 victory over Saturday's visitors. That win extended their winning run in Bloem against the Stormers to three matches. Overall in seven previous encounters in Bloem, the Cheetahs have a slight edge, winning four and losing three. Since 2006, the two teams have met in 15 Super Rugby fixtures, with the Stormers winning 10 and losing five.

The Cheetahs are already well out of the running for a place in the post-season play-offs in Super Rugby 2015, but will be looking for a fourth win of the season when they entertain their fellow countrymen on Saturday, the Stormers, in Bloemfontein. Bottom of the South African Conference, and trailing their nearest rivals the Sharks by five points. the Cheetahs could hamper their visitors hopes of making it into the play-offs, by springing something of a surprise in Bloem. They started the season with successive wins, by have managed just one win in the last eight fixtures, which came on tour in Perth against the Force. The Stormers won a titanic battle last weekend against their great rivals the Bulls, creeping home by just 15-13 at Newlands, A result that saw them climb above the Bulls to the top of the Conference. Although the gap is a mere point, with the Lions only three points further back, and waiting to pounce should their rivals slip up.

Well it really is a rock bottom encounter on Saturday in Super Rugby 2014, when the Cheetahs entertain the Stormers. The Cheetahs are at the bottom of the table with just one win from nine games played this season. Their visitors meanwhile, have fared little better, and have recorded just two wins from eight matches played. The Cheetahs ran the table topping Sharks close last week, eventually going down by 8-19, after being level at 3-3 at the interval. However, the Sharks were somewhat under strength, resting a number of players to ensure their fitness for the bigger challenges ahead of them. The Stormers did manage to post a victory last weekend, with an 18-3 home win against the Lions, and will hope that they can build on that success against the hapless Cheetahs. Rookie winger Devon Williams has been named to make his Super Rugby starting debut for the Stormers in Bloemfontein. Only last weekend did he make his Stormers debut off the bench. He replaces Sailosi Tagicakibau in the No. 11 shirt, who is still suffering with a sternum injury.

Fullback Jaco Taute also comes into the starting XV, with Peter Grant reverting to fly half, to replace Demetri Catrakilis who has a broken nose. A strong bench sees prop Oliver Kebble, flank Schalk Burger, flyhalf Kurt Coleman and wing Kobus van Wyk all taking their place on it.
