With just four regular season matches left to play for most of the sides in Super Rugby 2014 the race for the play off positions could not be any closer, with only the Sharks looking as if they have already clinched their place.
Eight sides appear to be chasing the other five places in the knockout phase of the tournament and two of that clash in AMI Stadium Christchurch on Friday, when the Crusaders play host to the Western Force from across the Tasman Sea.
After their try scoring bonus point 32-30 win at the Highlanders last weekend, the Crusaders currently lead the New Zealand Conference on 37 points, putting them third on the overall table. However, so tight is the Kiwi Conference, which they have just a one point advantage over the Hurricanes and Highlanders, with the reigning Champions the Chiefs just a further point back. The Hurricanes have played a game more than their three rivals.
The Force kept the momentum of their unexpected drive towards the play-offs going last weekend, with a home victory in Perth against the Lions, scoring four tries, as they secured a 29-19 victory. The Force is in fourth place on the overall table, three points behind the Conference leading Waratahs.
