Force                          Brumbies
Friday 11th March 11:05 GMT

The Force host the Brumbies in an Australian derby at the nib Stadium in Perth on Friday Evening in Round 3 of Super Rugby 2016. For the Force this will be a third successive derby match, having started the season with a 19-25 home loss to the Rebels, before defeating a dreadful looking Reds team in Brisbane by 22-6. The opening round defeat to the Rebels in Perth, means that the Force have only recorded a single home win in their last nine Super Rugby fixtures on home soil.

The Brumbies have been made early season favourites, and based on the first two weeks of the tournament, that position is probably justified. However, there is a long way to go in the campaign, and plenty of twists and turns in stall yet. In week 1, the Brumbies produced a stunning performance in running in 7 tries against last season's runners up, the Hurricanes, in Canberra, as they demolished their visitors by 52-10. Last week, saw them come through a tough Australian derby against the Waratahs, also on home soil by 3215- outscoring their opponents by 3-2 tries, Of the last eight fixtures between the two sides, the Brumbies have won seven, with the Western Force's only success coming back in 2013, when they won by 21-15 in Perth. The Brumbies would love to make it three from three, before they head off on tour to South Africa next week, where they will take on the Stormers and the Cheetahs.

The Force are at the foot of the 2015 Super Rugby table, with just two weeks of the regular season remaining. A woeful record of just two wins from 14 fixtures, sees them five points adrift of the Blues and the Cheetahs. On Friday, the Brumbies visit Perth, chasing a play-off place, either as Australian Conference winners or via a wild card place. The Brumbies are going neck and neck with the Waratahs for the Conference title, following their 22-16 defeat of the touring Bulls last weekend. However, they are on a run of three consecutive Australian derby defeats, after winning the first four games they played against their fellow countrymen, two of which came against their rivals, the Waratahs.

The Western Force were well beaten at home by the Reds 10-32 last weekend, just a fourth win for the Brisbane outfit themselves in 2015. The result was not the most surprising, given that the Perth based team, have managed just eight tries in front of their own fans this campaign, and have managed just one win on home soil. An 18-11 upset of the reigning Champions, the Waratahs, in Round 13. The Brumbies secured a try-scoring bonus point in a 27-15 win, when the teams met in Canberra in Round 4.

Western Force will take on 2013 Super Rugby runners up, the Brumbies on Saturday, with both sides looking to open their 2014 account. On the opening weekend in Australia, the Western Force found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-try hiding from the Waratahs in Sydney, while the Brumbies went down to a home defeat, just their third defeat in thirteen matches against the Reds in Canberra, and like Saturday's opponents, they also failed to pick up a bonus point, with the Reds scoring a late try to open the gap to 10 points between the sides. The Brumbies will look not only to open their season's account, but will seek some revenge for their late season loss in Perth in 2013, when they slipped to an unexpected 21-15 loss. It is felt by many respected pundits, that the loss in Perth affected the Brumbies momentum going into the play-off section of the season, and ultimately led to their 27-22 defeat to the Chiefs in last season's final.

Although after just one round of matches, statistics and table positions don't really have any real meaning, it will hurt the Brumbies to find themselves at the bottom of the Australian Conference, having drawn a home match to start their campaign, and the Force may find themselves suffering the backlash on Saturday.

The Brumbies will look to make a final push for a home semifinal when they travel to Perth to take on the Western Force this weekend. See Force v Brumbies live Super Rugby streaming by joining watchliverugby.tv today. The Brumbies are currently third on the overall table and can at best finish second, which would give them a home semifinal. If they end up third, then they’ll have to compete in a playoff quarterfinal, most likely against the Reds or the Cheetahs. Coach Jake White has chosen to restore all his Wallabies bar one to the starting lineup for this clash, with George Smith on the bench as Colby Faingaa’s good form in the games against the Rebels and the Lions is rewarded with a starting spot. Nic White’s shoulder injury keeps him out of this one, with Ian Prior starting at scrumhalf. The Force are all but guaranteed the wooden spoon in the Australian conference but Perth has proved to be a tricky venue for visitors in the past. They have 27 points and are five behind the Rebels, who have 32 to their name.
