Saturday 23rd July 07:35 GMT

The Hurricanes who finished top of the regular season Super Rugby table for a second successive year, continue their quest for the title on Saturday, with a hoe fixture at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, against the Sharks. The Hurricanes clinched the New Zealand Conference title last weekend, with a record victory over the Crusaders in Christchurch, where they triumphed by 35-10. That result saw them finish with a record of 11 wins and just four defeats. The last time that the Hurricanes suffered defeat, was in Round 11, when they were beaten by Saturday's opponents in Durban by 15-32. They have put together a run of five straight wins since.

The only visitors to the Hurricanes to taste success in 2016 were the Chiefs, who won a thrilling encounter in Round 9 by 28-27. The Sharks come into the play-offs as the eighth and bottom seeds. A record of nine wins a draw, along with five defeats left them in third position in the South African Conference, well adrift of the Stormers and the Lions. On their tour to New Zealand earlier in the season, the Sharks were beaten by the Blues and the Chiefs, but did spring a surprise by winning at the Highlanders 15-14, all be it playing against 14 men for much of the game.

The only visitors to Wellington this season from South Africa, the Stormers, were beaten 20-25, while the Canes won both matches on tour to the Republic at the start of the 2015 season. The Lions and the Bulls being defeated 22-8 and 17-13 respectively. The Sharks who are in eleventh place in the table, and on the brink of elimination from this season's Super Rugby tournament, began their tour last weekend with a thumping 15-48 defeat, during which they conceded seven tries to the Highlanders.
