An Australian derby takes place in Brisbane on Saturday, when the Reds host the Brumbies in Round 5 of the 2015 Super Rugby tournament. The sides met on the opening weekend of the season in Canberra, with the Brumbies burying the Reds under an avalanche of nearly 50 points.

The Reds who had a disappointing 2014 campaign, have not fared much better in 2015, with just a solitary win to their name after 4 Rounds of action. After the hammering in Canberra, they won a game played in atrocious conditions in Brisbane against the Force. A trip to Dunedin saw them pick up a losing bonus point as they went down 13-20 to the Highlanders, while last weekend they lost to their great rivals the Waratahs by 5-23.

It will be something of a surprise if the Reds, with only two sides below them in the overall table, manage to avenge the earlier defeat. The Canberra based outfit have won three matches, and their perfect record was only spoiled by a late penalty in New Plymouth in Round 2, that enable the Chiefs to claim the points with a 19-17 win. Perhaps quite surprisingly, the Reds have only beaten the Brumbies twice on home soil, having lost eight of their 11 matches, with one game drawn.

Last weekend saw the Queensland Reds slip to a morale crushing home defeat to the Western Force. The score may have been a close 29-32, but the defeat leaves them in fourth position on the Australian Conference, and in danger of slipping out of contention for a post season play-off spot at an early stage. While Friday's clash in Brisbane with their Australian rivals the Brumbies, doesn't quite amount to a must win game, it will probably feel like that to anyone connected to the home side.

Defeat at the Suncorp Stadium, would leave the Reds 10 or 11 points behind the Conference leading Brumbies, and starting to see some daylight between the wild card positions, and their own precarious place on the table. There is no doubt that the Reds have suffered worse than most sides already this season with injuries, and their situation has been made even worse, by the announcement that their winger, Lachie Turner, is ruled out of Super Rugby for the next five weeks. The unfortunate player required surgery on a troublesome ankle, which needed loose cartilage cleaning up.

The Reds already had a list of players in rehabilitation; Liam Gill out for five weeks with a hamstring problem, Ben Daley sidelined for two weeks with a knee injury, along with Samu Kerevi also out for two weeks due to an ankle injury. Chris Kuridrani is another ankle victim and is out of the squad for five weeks, and Dom Shipperley's hip flexor problem means two weeks out of the side, while the longest layoff of all, is Aidan Toua who is out for 12 weeks with a pectoral issue.

On Friday, the 6th of April, the Super Rugby competition will continue with a match at 19:40 local time, which also happens to be the same GMT. This game is between the Queensland Reds and the Brumbies and it will be held in Brisbane. The Reds are the second ranked team in the Australian Conference. They have just three wins out of six games played, which not only gives them a score of thirteen, it also ties them with the Waratahs in third. The Brumbies have also only won a single game. They have 18 points, but have lost two of the five games played.
