The Reds started their tour to South Africa last weekend with a visit to Loftus Versfeld, where they were easily disposed of by the Bulls, who scored five tries on their way to a 41-22 success. The Queensland Reds did manage three tries of their own, which did at least prevent the Bulls from collecting a bonus point. Before the Bulls result, the Reds had been showing significant signs of improvement. The three fixtures prior to their departure for the Republic, brought a first and so far only win of the season against the Highlanders by 28-27, and narrow losses to the Waratahs 13-15 and a draw with the Blues 25-25.

An intriguing clash in Cape Town this weekend pits the Stormers against 2011 champions the Reds at Newlands. See live streaming action of Stormers v Reds from your control panel at The Stormers were upset by the lowly Rebels last week, losing 30-21 to suffer their third loss on tour. The losses of injured loose forwards Duane Vermuelen and Rynhardt Elstadt were keenly felt as the Cape side’s defensive structure faltered at crucial moments to let in two soft tries. They will however feel aggrieved, and rightly so, by a controversial penalty try awarded to the Rebels by the TMO, who failed to spot a knock on by Scott Higginbotham moments before.

The Queensland Reds were stunned 27-13 by the Cheetahs last week and must take points out of this clash if they are to challenge for Conference honors. They had a chance to overtake the Brumbies by beating the Cheetahs but squandered a golden opportunity in Bloemfontein. The Reds had the better of the plays and more opportunities, but were let done by their inability to convert dominance into points. Will Genia had one of his off days in the No.9 jumper and Ewen McKenzie will be hoping that the nippy scrumhalf returns to form in Cape Town.
