Sunday 3rd April 06:05 GMT

Round 6 of the 2016 Super Rugby season will draw to a close on Sunday, with an Australian derby at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney between the Waratahs and the Rebels. For the Waratahs this will be a fourth Australian derby in just five fixtures this season. They have already completed a season's double against the struggling Reds, which has given them their only wins so far in the current campaign. Between their two wins, the Waratahs have been beaten by the Brumbies in Canberra 15-32 and in Sydney by the reigning Champion Highlanders 26-30.

The 10 points that they have accumulated leaves them seven behind the Brumbies and three behind Sunday's opponents, although they have a game in hand on both of their rivals. The Rebels were also beaten by the Highlanders on home soil, when they went down by 3-27 last weekend. The Rebels have recorded three wins this season to date, two in derbies against the Force and the Reds, and in Tokyo against the newly formed Sunwolves. A one off match in Pretoria ended in defeat to the Bulls. The Melbourne Rebels have only ever beaten the Waratahs once in ten Super Rugby meetings, when they sneaked a 24-22 win in Melbourne back in 2013.

Following their first defeat of the Super Rugby season, last weekend against the Brumbies, the Waratahs coach Michael Cheika, has made four alterations to his side for the clash with Melbourne Rebels at Allianz Stadium on Friday. Sekope Kepu makes a start at loose head prop, while the biggest ever player to represent New South Wales, Will Skelton, returning in the second row. Jacques Potgieter moves to wing forward to allow the return of Potgieter, with Dave Dennis accompanying him at No. 8 and Michael Hopper on the other flank, winning his 50th Super Rugby Cap. Benn Robinson moves to a place among the reserves, to allow the Wallaby front rower, Kepu, his first start of 2014. The rest of the front row is made up by Paddy Ryan and hooker Tatafu Polota Nau, whose appearance will make him the sixth most capped NSW player in history. If Wycliff Palu puts in an appearance from the bench, he will earn his 99th NSW state cap. The Melbourne Rebels make history by naming two Japanese players in the match day squad for a Super Rugby match; Male Sau and compatriot Shota Horie both being named on the bench.
