Agen play their first Top 14 Orange match in their own Stade Armandie Stadium on Saturday since 2013, following their promotion at the end of last season back to the top tier of the French domestic game. The visitors will be the rugby giants from Toulouse, the most successful of all French Clubs.
Many people's favourites to make a quick return to the Pro D2, Agen made an encouraging start to the new campaign in Round 1, when they travelled to the Stade des Alpes to take on Grenoble. However, the final score was 38-23 in favour of the home side, who secured a bonus point, scoring six tries. For Agen, the early part of the season, when most teams will be decimated by international calls on their players for the World Cup, is a vital period, where they need to accumulate points against weakened sides as a buffer against a relegation dog fight.
Toulouse started their own season, with a comfortable enough win against Brive at the Stade Ernest-Wallon. However, 3-tries and a 24-0 half time lead should have seen them go onto a crushing win and to secure a bonus point as well. However, a flat second half, and a late try from the visitors, saw Toulouse denied the bonus point.
