Bayonne                          Toulouse
Sunday 20th November 15:15 GMT

Bayonne who are rooted to the foot of the Top 14 table, will be hoping to that they can cause an upset for the second weekend in succession, when they host Toulouse at the Stade Jean Dauger on Sunday, in the last fixture of Round 12 in the Top 14 tournament. Before last weekend, Bayonne had managed just a solitary victory in this season's competition, and that came on the opening weekend of the campaign, when they defeated Toulon 28-23 on home soil.

However, despite playing for over half of the contest against table topping Clermont Auvergne with 14 men, they became just the second side to beat the table leaders. Despite their amazing 22-14 success, they failed to lift themselves off of the bottom of the ladder, as they still trail Grenoble by a point. Toulouse were beaten for just the second time in the last six Top 14 Orange games that they have played last weekend, when they lost 19-25 at surprise club La Rochelle. That result was a fourth loss in five outings away from home in the domestic competition, their only success being against PAY by 24-20 in Round 9. In total they have 27 points from 11 games, placing them in sixth position ahead of Round 12's fixtures.

It might have been easy for the pundits to predict that the Bayonne v Toulouse clash in week 7 of this season's Top 14 tournament, would take place with the home team in or around the relegation zone. They are indeed in 12th place, just above Brive and newly promoted Lyons. However, only the bravest, or apparently the most foolish would have suggested that four times Heineken Cup champions Toulouse would find themselves in a similar predicament. Toulouse themselves are only a point clear of the bottom two, having now lost an almost unprecedented four matches in a row.

The match at the Stade Jean Dauger on Friday takes on huge insignificance for both teams, as they seek to put a little daylight between themselves and the scrap at the bottom of the table. Since losing at home in Week 1 to reigning champions Toulon, Bayonne have won their two home fixtures, but typically it on the road that they are struggling, with three defeats from three games played. Toulouse began the campaign with two home wins, but have lost four successive fixtures, including three on the road since then, and with the pack performing so feebly, they might just find themselves taking that losing run to five on Friday.
