Brive                          Bayonne
Saturday 5th November 17:30 GMT

Brive will be hoping for a victory on Saturday in Round 10 of the Top 14 tournament, that will put some significant daylight between themselves and the relegation zone. Their opponents at Stade Amedee Domenech in Brive will be the club that are rock bottom of the table, Bayonne. Brive are currently in tenth position in the table with 19 points, which puts them eight points ahead of Grenoble, who are faced with the daunting trip to Clermont Auvergne at the weekend, and are most unlikely to claim so much as a losing bonus point. Bayonne are a further three points back from Grenoble, and already look like a side that will be plying its trade in the Pro D2 next season.

Brive's unbeaten home record in the Top 14 Orange this season, came to an abrupt halt last weekend, when table topping Clermont came to town, and dismantled them to the tune of 16-40. A third loss in the last four Top 14 fixtures that they have played. Bayonne, who were promoted from the Pro D2 at the end of last season, as the runners-up to Lyon, won their opening match in the Top 14 this season, a stunning 28-23 success against mighty Toulon, but haven't enjoyed a win since. Two draws in the subsequent eight games in the competition being their best efforts. They have failed to register a single bonus point to date, and their eight points, leaves them a massive nine points from safety already.

Saturday's match at the Stade Amedee Domenech Stadium between Brive and Bayonne, is vital for both sides, as they strive to pull themselves away from the relegation zone. Brive go into the contest just one point and one position ahead of their visitors, with a buffer of just four and three points respectively between themselves and La Rochelle in 13th position.

Brive are a prime example of the Top 14 Orange tournament, and club's inability or unwillingness to put in the same effort and level of performance when they play away from home. They have the worst home record of all the sides in the competition, and yet they have won five and lost just two of the fixtures they have played in their own stadium. It is difficult to picture Bayonne causing an upset at the weekend, given that they have yet to win away from home on the Top 14 during the current campaign. A solitary draw to set alongside six defeats, is all they have to show for their away trips. While Brive were battered 10-46 at Bordeaux last weekend, Bayonne did at least pick up a losing bonus point, as they slipped just 9-12 at struggling Oyonnax.
