Saturday 12th November 19:15 GMT

Two clubs who are just outside the vital top six positions in the Top 14 tournament, Castres and Brive, go head to head in Round 11 of the competition at the Stade Pierre Antoine in Castres on Saturday. Castres are currently in ninth position in the table, with 21 points, from an overall record of four wins and a draw, to set alongside five defeats. They are one place and two points behind Saturday's visitors, Brive. Bordeaux-Begles are in sixth position at the end of Round 10, with 26 points. Both Castres and Brive will be anxious to claim victory at the weekend, in order to avoid losing any more ground on the leading clubs in the ladder.

Castres have lost three of their last four Top 14 Orange fixtures, with the only win during that sequence being on home soil against Bordeaux in Round 9 by 33-27. The win against Bordeaux was the fourth in five home games this season, the one reverse coming against La Rochelle 18-26, back at the beginning of September. Brive ended a run of two successive Top 14 defeats last weekend, when they beat bottom club Bayonne by 26-9. The trip to Castres will present Brive with a chance to end a run of three straight away losses in the Top 14, since they stunned Toulon 25-21 in Round 3 in early September.

One of the great mysteries of this season's Top 14 Orange tournament, is how Brive have managed to rise as high as fifth in the table after 10 rounds of play, having managed to score a mere 11 tries. Even the clubs who in the relegation zone have scored more tries so far. In Brive's defence, they have conceded fewer tries than any of the other 13 clubs in the tournament. Their own line having only been crossed on 13 occasions. Brive will arrive at the Stade Pierre Antoine to face Castres on Sunday having already registered two away wins this season, although in fairness, those wins have come against Oyonnax and Pau, two of the three bottom sides in the table. Castres have a 50% winning record this season, and their 24 points leaves them just four points outside the play-off positions, They have four of their five matches on home soil, with only Grenoble getting the better of them.

The past two weeks of European competition have not been very productive for either club, both of whom are competing in the Challenge Cup. Castres have played at home and away against Sale Sharks from the Aviva Premiership, and have suffered two defeats, and their chances of progressing further appear to be all but over. Brive have played twice against the Russian side, Enisei-STM, and fell to a shock defeat in Sochi, before recovering some pride with a comfortable home win last weekend.

Castres may have contested the last two Grand Finals in the Top 14 Orange tournament, both against Toulon, winning the title in 2013, but the climax to this season is very different. Going into this weekends match against Brive at the Stade Pierre Antoine, Castres find themselves outside the relegation positions merely because they have won a game more than Bayonne, Both teams have accumulated 47 points during the course of the season so far.

Brive themselves are only a point above their hosts, and with a home match to finish the season against Stade Francais, they may well decide that this weekend is the opportunity to secure the win that they need to give them Top 14 rugby next season. Both sides have been in good form over the past five matches, with Castres winning four and Brive three of their games during that period. Castres last home game saw them thump Champions Cup runners-up, and currently second in the table, Clermont Auvergne 31-10, before they produced a second half comeback at Toulon that saw them go down bravely by 21-37. Brive meanwhile made the decision that they would get nothing from last weekend's trip to Toulouse and fielded a weakened side, which duly got crushed by 67-19.
