Crisis club Grenoble return to play their first game in front of their own fans at the Stade des Alpes Stadium on Saturday, when they face PAU in Round 6 of the Top 14 Orange, since it was revealed that they had spent heavily over budget, and were asking the players to take a cut in their salary. In their first outing following that announcement, last weekend, the Alpine based club were perhaps unsurprisingly thrashed at Castres by 9-46. A fourth defeat in five games this season. They have collected five points altogether, and are at the foot of the table.

Grenoble's most recent home fixture, did see them record their only win of the campaign, when they beat Brive by 36-23. That result still represents Brive's only defeat in this season's competition. The only other match that they have played on home soil so far, ended in a narrow loss to the season's surprise club, La Rochelle, who claimed a narrow 22-19 victory. Pau are in tenth position in the table with 10 points from five matches. However, it is already looking as if it will be their home form that will dictate whether PAU will survive for another season in the top flight. On the road they have played and lost three twice, and been well outplayed, going down at Castres 11-28 and Montpellier 13-41.

Grenoble host last season's PRO D2 Champions at the Stade des Alpes Stadium on Saturday, in Round 3 of the Top 14 tournament. The early rounds of this season's competition have suggested that both clubs will be dependant on their home form to keep them out of relegation trouble, with that target probably being the extent of their ambitions. Despite the levelling of the playing field in the early part of the season, due to international calls, which are affecting the bigger and richer clubs than it is their smaller rivals.

After the first two rounds of the Top 14, Grenoble and Pau have both won and lost one match each. Both clubs winning their home fixture, and losing their away. Grenoble defeated the other promoted club, Agen, in the opening week of the season, clinching a try-scoring bonus point, before visiting Clermont last weekend. Despite the disjointed performance by the hosts, Grenoble were unable to take advantage, and despite trailing just 6-7 at the turn around, they finally went down by 6-25. Pau meanwhile travelled to Paris to take on the reigning Champions, Stade Français on their return to the Top 14 Orange. The final result 18-34 was scant reward for a spirited display. When Montpellier came calling in week 2 they were beaten by 26-16.
