Saturday 3rd December 17:30 GMT

Lyon, who have been beaten in three of their last four Top 14 fixtures, still have a seven point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone, but will be keen to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host Castres at the Matmut Stadium in Lyon, to at the very least maintain that gap between themselves and the bottom two in the table. All three of those recent Top 14 defeats were on the road at Stade Français, Montpellier and table topping Clermont Auvergne, all difficult trips. Yet none of those losses were by more than 6 points, and Lyon did at least secure losing bonus points in the last two of those games.

All four of Lyon's Top 14 Orange victories this season have come at the Matmut Stadium, while the other match that they have played at home ended in a 15-15 draw with Brive in Round 1. Castres in contrast to Saturday's opponents have won three of their last four fixtures in the tournament. However, all of those wins have been on home soil, where they have won six of seven outings in the Top 14 this season, the one reverse coming against La Rochelle in Round 3. They may occupy sixth position in the table, but have lost all but one game on the road, and that finished in a 12-12 draw at Bayonne in Round 2.

Newly promoted Lyon are currently in a lowly 13th position in the Top 14 Orange table, but will point to the early season fixture list as a major factor in their predicament. Like most French Clubs, and indeed even the national XV, they are far more effective on their own soil. So far this season they have only played two games, both of which they have won, whereas their four road trips have all ended in defeat.

Saturday's visitors to the Matmut Stadium, Castres, may have been finalists in the Top 14 tournament for the past two seasons, but their form in the new campaign, has been nothing short of shocking. They are just one point clear of the relegation zone, courtesy of having picked up two bonus points so far, whereas the clubs below them have secured just one. Like their hosts, Castres have lost each of their three away games so far, and they could find themselves at least a place closer to the relegation positions came Saturday evening, as Lyon will fancy their chances of clinching the points against their struggling visitors. Last week Lyon were victims of a resurgent Clermont at the the Parc des Sports Marcel Michelin, Clermont Ferrand who defeated them 43-12, while Castre with home advantage managed to see off Oyonnax 27-18.
