Potentially the biggest game of the weekend in the French Top 14 tournament, takes place at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir on Friday Evening, when the home club Montpellier, who are second in the table at the end of Round 13, play host to the club immediately behind them in the log, Toulon. Since being beaten in front of their own fans at the end of August in Round 2 of the tournament, Montpellier have won all five of the games that they have played at home. In total, Montpellier have won eight of their 13 matches, and collected 37 points, leaving them four points adrift of the table leaders Clermont Auvergne, and just ahead of Toulon.
Toulon have struggled to find any consistency this season, either in the Top 14 Orange or the Champions Cup. In the domestic competition, they have won seven and drawn one of their 13 matches. Only two of those victories have come on the road, at PAU by just four points back in Round 2, and them Toulouse by the more comfortable margin of 32-15 in Round 4. Since when, they have lost three times away from home, while drawing 17-17 at La Rochelle in Round 8.

Montpellier's early season challenge for a play-off position in the Top 14 Orange tournament, has hit a rough patch in the last couple of months, with four defeats in their last five matches. They now find themselves in seventh position, with a record of seven wins and seven defeats during the first 14 rounds of this season's competition. On Saturday, they face another major challenge to their ambitions, as they welcome reigning Top 14 and European Champions Toulon to their Altrad Stadium. Although they have won five and lost just twice at home in the Top 14 Orange, Montpellier still have the second worst home record amongst the 14 clubs. Saturday's visitors bring with them the best away record in the league. Three wins and two bonus points to set against four defeats.
Toulon were well and truly knocked off top spot in the table last weekend, and it will be interesting to see how they react to the sort of setback that they incurred, when they travelled to the Stade Jean-Bouin and lost 6-30 to Stade Francais, who replaced them in top spot. That defeat was a third on the trot away from home, their last win on the road coming back in early October against Oyonnax.
