Given that an element of their success was based on grinding teams down in the mud of their Stade Charles Mathon home, Oyonnax took the somewhat surprising step of having their pitch replaced by an "artificial" surface, the first French team to do so. Having played away in Round 1, Saturday's fixture will therefore, be the first Top 14 match staged on an artificial pitch. The season didn't start well for the minnows, as they travelled to the Altrad Stadium, and went down to Montpellier by 19-35.

Bordeaux, started their season with a win against Castres, who just avoided the drop last season. Although the performance and final margin of 19-16, were anything but convincing. The team from the Atlantic coast did maintain their place as the best supported team in the competition, with a crown of just under 20,000 attending last weekend's contest. The visitors may find the new surface to their liking, as the emphasis will be on a fluid game, rather than a forward dominated arm wrestle.

Although no club has recorded more bonus points at home in this season's Top 14 Orange tournament than Oyonnax, they have accumulated fewer points than all the other participating teams, than bottom of the table Lyon. Having survived on the last day of the season in the ast Top 14 campaign, their first after promotion, Oyonnax look likely to have another long and traumatic season in front of them, unless they can improve on their current form at the Stade Charles Mathon, where they have won just two of their five games so far.

On Saturday, Bordeaux Begles are the visitors to the Alps, looking for the result that will lift them back into the top four in the table, having slipped up in their last Top 14 game, when they were beaten at home by Toulouse 20-21 in a thriller at the Stade Chaban-Delmas, when a missed conversation two minutes from the end cost them their unbeaten home record.

Despite lying fifth in the table, and producing some of the most outstanding rugby displayed in the tournament this season, most of that spectacular rugby has been played at home. Away from home they have picked up just five points from five games played.
