Saturday 18th February 17:30 GMT

The reigning Top 14 Orange Champions, Racing 92, will continue to be concerned about the inconsistent results that they are posting during the current campaign. However, they are doing just enough to cling onto the shirt tails of the clubs that currently occupy the play-off positions. On Saturday, Racing Metro entertain Brive at the Stade Yves Du Manoir, Colombes, sitting in eighth position, with nine wins and a draw from 17 fixtures. Altogether they have collected 41 points.

Racing are just a single point behind the three clubs immediately above them, and just two behind Castres who are in fourth position in the standings. Brive are in the bottom half of the table, and desperately need a win at Racing to prevent the gap between themselves and the top six clubs becoming any greater. Ahead of Round 18 this weekend, Brive have 36 points. The two clubs faced each other on the 1st October, with Brive inflicting a 25-16 defeat on the Champions. A not altogether surprising outcome, given Racing's woeful form on the road. Which is quite simply the reason that they are struggling to make the play-offs and the chance to defend their title.

Racing 92 are one of three clubs that are locked at the top of the Top 14 Orange tournament, who have suffered just one defeat in their first six fixtures of the season. However, their inability to secure even a solitary bonus point to date, has left them third of the three, trailing Clermont and Montpellier by three and two points respectively. On Saturday Racing Metro play host to Brive at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir, who after struggling nearer to the bottom of the table than the top in recent seasons, are currently riding high in fifth position.

After losing two of their first three fixtures, Brive have embarked on a run of three successive victories, including a first away win of the season last weekend, when they defeated newly promoted Pau 18-13 at the Stade du Hameau. That Brive have climbed as high as they have on the back of six tries scored in six matches is quite astonishing, and if they wish to maintain their elevated position, they will have to start finding their way to their opponents line on a more regular basis.

Racing produced probably their best performance of the season last weekend, when they beat the defending Champions Stade Français on their own ground by 27-18, and they will look to build on that result as they bid to keep the pressure on the top two.
