The air of invincibility that has surrounded three times Champions Cup winners Toulon in recent seasons, has disappeared this season, as they have lost their European crown and suffered nine defeats in 22 fixtures in the French Top 14 Orange tournament. However, they are still sitting in fourth position in the Top 14 table, level on 68 points with third place Racing 92, who knocked them out of Europe, and trailing second placed Montpellier by five points, with four rounds of fixtures remaining to be played.

On Sunday, Toulon host Castres at their Stade Felix Mayol home, seeking to improve on their recent record of just one win in the last three Top 14 fixtures. The two defeats during that run have been in "home" fixtures, when Toulon took ground advantage to Marseilles and Nice, losing to Clermont and Toulouse respectively. A run of three successive wins, has lifted Castres to sixth position in the table, holding on to the final play-off spot. However, they have a mere one point advantage over the club behind them, Bordeaux-Begles. The two clubs first went head to head in this season's Top 14 at the end of August at the Stade Pierre-Antoine, when Castres secured a bonus point 24-9 victory.

Toulon successfully defended their Heineken Cup crown last weekend in Cardiff against Saracens of England but on Saturday, can they go one better than last season, and complete the European and domestic double. Last season they fell at the final hurdle in Paris to Castres 14-19, and by coincidence that face the same opponents this season. Perhaps last season, the Galacticos of Toulon were over confident of victory in the Top 14 Orange final, having defeated the mighty Clermont Auvergne in the Heineken final in Dublin. If that was the case, we can be certain that Bernard Laporte charges will not make the same mistake this time, as they seek their first French title since 1992. With the match signaling the last game of legendary English No.10 Jonny Wilkinson's career, there will be a massive sideshow to the main attraction. One thing is for certain, and that is that Wilkinson will not allow himself or his team to be distracted by the emotion of his final appearance.

However, he will have to combat Castres prized jewel, scrum half Rory Kockott. Last year, there is no doubt that Kockott won the battle against Wilkinson, not just with the boot, but in his decision making, and execution of the side's game plan, as they strangled the life out of the talented Toulon XV.
