Toulon                          Stade Francais
Sunday 13th November 20:00 GMT

Toulon will entertain Stade Francais in the final fixture of Round 11 in the Top 14 tournament at the Stade Mayol on Sunday. Under normal circumstances this would be a hugely anticipated fixture. However, both clubs will be missing a raft of players, required by the countries for international duty in the Autumn series. Irrespective of the strength of the XV's fielded by the two clubs, the result is still vitally important to the two sides with respect to their Top 14 position.

Toulon have lacked the consistency of recent seasons during the current campaign. Yet they still occupy third position in the table, with 27 points, leaving them nine and three points behind Clermont and La Rochelle respectively. Since suffering a shock loss to Brive in their opening home game of the season, Toulon have won all three of the Top 14 Orange games that they have played in front of their own fans. With Clermont and Montpellier being amongst their victims. Stade are down in eleventh position, with 20 points to their credit, from four wins and a draw, set alongside five defeats in the Top 14. All five of those losses have been suffered when they were playing away from home.

The two French Top 14 Orange semi-finals, which take place this weekend at the Stade Bordeaux-Atlantique, Bordeaux, both provide match ups between the traditional powerhouses of French rugby, against the current day powerhouses of the domestic game. Friday evening sees the first contest between the reigning Champions, Toulon, and the Parisian aristocrats of Stade Francais. Toulon were victorious in last season's final against Castres, having lost the 2013 final against the same opposition when they had been overwhelming favourites to win their first title for 11 years. The club from the South West of the country have four titles to their name, as well as having won the last three European Champions Cups. Stade Francais have won 13 titles in their history, a total only bettered by Toulouse. However, they have not been crowned Top 14 Champions since 2007, when they secured a fourth title in eight years.

Toulon finished at the top of the regular season table, meaning they advanced straight to this match. Whereas. Stade had to play and subsequently defeat their Parisian neighbours, Racing Metro, in last weekends "barrage". Both matches between the clubs during the regular season, went the way of Stade, who won by 28-24 away in Toulon back in September 2014, while they won rather more comfortably by 30-6 at home just after Christmas.

After their first defeat of the season in Round 3 of the 2014 15 Top 14 Orange tournament at the Stade Yves du Manoir against Racing Métro the previous week, The reigning champions Toulon got back to winning ways last weekend with a difficult game at home against Bordeaux Begles. Thanks to six Frederic Michalak penalties, the champions were able to squeeze an 18-13 win over Bordeaux-Begles at Stade Mayol. On Saturday, they are likely to face an even more challenging fixture in their own stadium, when Stade Francais are their visitors. Toulon hasn’t been beaten at the Mayol since January, when Grenoble was the visitors. However, if they are unable to be more clinical in their finishing against Stade than they were against Bordeaux, when the opposition played for 20 minutes a man down, and yet the home side still failed to cross the try line, then they may find that the final outcome is somewhat different.

Stade Francais have like Toulon, won three and lost one match this season, and are level on points with Saturday's opponents. Their one defeat came when they played Oyonnax away from home, and found themselves thumped by 33-6. However, by contrast, their other road trip this season saw them win at Castres. Although Castres subsequent form has dampened the quality of that result.
